Who and What is Interlace?

Hi, there! I’m Erica, and I love to weave. I enjoy all kinds of fiber arts — knitting, crocheting, felting, etc. — but weaving holds my heart. Weaving is an artistic endeavor, a chance to blend color and texture, experiment with pattern, and feel immense satisfaction at seeing a project grow from an idea into a full, complete work of art ~ but art that is also useful and practical.

Everything I weave is one-of-a kind ~ even when I use the same style for another piece, the colors vary, or the yarn fiber is different, and of course my weaving adjusts and evolves. Each item’s personality naturally changes over time through loving use and laundering.

What is Interlace?

I began Interlace, a small, woman-owned company, to sell my useful pieces of handwoven art. I want to share my love of weaving ~ and with that both the beauty and the practical side of weaving. May others also feel delight at having and using a beautiful and unique piece of art in their everyday!

Winter in Fairbanks, Alaska. I am wearing a handwoven scarf (which looks delightful as a table runner, too!).

For several years I dreamed of opening a weaving business, and in 2024 I finally had the courage to do so, officially selling my very first items to a local small business. I plan on taking small, but steady steps towards expanding this weaving business of mine, keeping enjoyment at the forefront of it all. I love to weave and learn about weaving ~ and for me this must stay at the center of it all. I feel great satisfaction at seeing something beautiful and unique created by my own hands.

I read and take courses to learn about weaving techniques. I practice and intertwine this new knowledge into the products I create, keeping the ones that do not pass muster for myself, and adding the others to the stock that gift-seekers can browse through.

Where I am from: I live in Fairbanks, Alaska: 200 road miles (and 140 air miles) from the Arctic Circle, where there are many days of chilly temperatures and long nights — and then in the summer, the sun does not dip down beneath the horizon for very long at all. It helps to stay occupied during the coldest days, and weaving is one of my go-to activities. (You can find me weaving during the summer, though, too!)

I hope you always find a way to weave beauty into your life.

~ Erica
