Too (Im)perfect: When things don’t go quite right ~ but they’re still beautiful

Too (Im)perfect: Versatile Striped Houndstooth: a scarf or table runner, March 2024.

I try to weave my very best each time, but some days life (or the loom) does not go to plan. Most times, if I see a weaving mistake, I can backtrack and fix it — or repair a broken warp thread with another. There are times I see these errors, yet do not know how to fix them (Life is a series of learning moments!), so I sigh, and carry on. At other times I do not see my errors until I have removed the fabric from the loom…

Each of these times I can see the beauty in what I have woven: perhaps its the colors that I spent time selecting, or the work that went into warping and weaving, perhaps it is the joy of accomplishment — the first of its kind that I have woven, or the first time I have used the pattern or fiber type. Or, simply, for no specific reason at all I am proud to see a useful and beautiful item that I have woven myself.

Some of these items become part of my household collection, to use and enjoy. Some of these items I still want to share with you — and acknowledging their too-many-in-my-eyes flaws, I sell these at a reduced price. Whichever kind of item you find, perfect for you, or too imperfect, I hope you delight in using it and enjoy the beauty it brings to your life.
